Today is a special day that unites the great achievements and ambitious dreams of Kurash, a traditional sport with a history spanning thousands of years.

Exactly 28 years ago, on 6 September 1998, the International Kurash Association (IKA) was established. This historic decision marked the beginning of a new era in bringing our national heritage to the world stage and making Kurash an integral part of the international sports movement.

Over the years, Kurash has gone through an unprecedented journey of development. Today, Kurash is a prestigious international sport developing in nearly 140 countries, bringing together millions of people and serving as a bridge of friendship between continents and cultures.

Kurash has secured a strong place in the programmes of the Asian Games. It has also been recognised as one of the important sports of the Islamic Solidarity Games, the competitions of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and the World Nomad Games. None of these achievements are the result of a single day’s effort or coincidence.

Behind these accomplishments lies the dedication of thousands of devoted people who have dedicated their lives to the development of Kurash.

First and foremost, the continued support and attention of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Honorary President of the International Kurash Association, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, have provided a solid foundation for this development.

At the same time, the efforts of federations, coaches, referees, organisers and millions of Kurash athletes in hundreds of countries have helped make Kurash an important part of the global sports movement.

Behind every victory is a human story. Behind every competition lies tremendous effort. And behind every flag is the dream of people who believe in the values of Kurash and have devoted themselves to its future.

Today, as we look back, we take pride in the journey we have travelled. But the history of Kurash is far from complete. Its greatest chapters are still ahead.

Our greatest goal is clear — to make Kurash an integral part of the Olympic Movement. We believe that Kurash, which promotes the noblest values of humanity and upholds honesty and human dignity, will certainly earn its rightful place in the Olympic family.
